Automatic Organisms
Tommy Hogan and Kaiya de Boers explore the concept of cybernetic enhancements. A science-fiction concept that is seemingly becoming more of a reality as time progresses. We theorized how this will impact both culture and fashion, as well as the visual representation of inequality between working-class and upper-class youth. The upper class is able to afford the finest bionic products. They reflect this level of status back through a neo-aristocratic style, becoming the beautiful cyborgs of their dreams. Whereas the working class is forced into a game of catchup, unable to afford new faceplates their cybernetic bodies begin to rust. Therefore they feel pushed towards the fringes of society birthing a grunge nihilistic counter-culture.
